Tourist In Dubai Racks Up $47,000 Speeding Fines In 4 Hours

Hearing stories of how Dubai is saturated with stunning and expensive hypercars comes around almost everyday. So you’d think the drivers over there would be pretty mental. I mean, a mere mortal like myself wouldn’t be able to hold off from pressing a pedal that unleashes several hundred horses.

But it turns out that Dubai is a stickler for speeding, and its drivers are actually very well behaved. Remember that when you next take a trip to the UAE, otherwise you’ll end up like a 25-year-old British tourist who racked up $47,000 worth of speeding fines in just 4 hours in a rented Lamborghini Huracan.

Each of the speeding fines occurred between 2:31 a.m. and 6:26 a.m. on July 31 where he was caught driving at speeds between 78 and 143 mph on only two stretches of road – the Sheikh Zayed Road in which he was caught speeding 32 times, and the Garn Al Sabkha Road in which he was caught once. Two fines he managed to receive in under 60 seconds.

I bet poo came out…

As the car is a rental, the fines were sent straight to the rental company. The tourist rented the car for $1,600 and as a guarantee, gave over his passport. With both the tourist and the rental agency disagreeing as to who pays the fines, the tourist is still in possession of the car, which is impounded.

The rental company won’t pay the impound charge of $27,000, and the tourist won’t pay the speeding fines, leaving both parties stuck. The tourist is also stuck in the country due to not having a passport.

At the end of the day, someone is going to have to pay. Let us know in the comments who you think that is.

  1. 100% the tourist should pay all the fines, he was the one speeding not the rental company, who will have warned him about speeding as well.
