Clarkson’s Farm: Cheerful Charlie Breaks Down Day Of Filming With Jeremy Clarkson – “He’s At The Top Of His Game”

Jeremy Clarkson’s land agent and star of Clarkson’s Farm, Charlie Ireland, has spoken about what a day filming the hit farming show looks like.

In a recent interview, Ireland explained what filming is like from his side. He talked about Clarkson’s natural way of seeing where a story is going to go for TV:

“He is at the top of his game. He’s absolutely brilliant. He can see exactly where the story is going. And the filming days are quite interesting. I’m quite prepared now.”

Continuing about what the filming days looks like for him, Ireland explained:

“I’ve got a little office. I take all my equipment, laptop, everything with me and settle in for my five minutes of filming, spread over about eight hours. TV takes a really long time, but we do settle and we get it done. And that’s because, you know, he see something.

“It is natural when it happens, you have a plan for the day, but farming happens and you pick up the other areas that are going. The other thing he does is actually get involved. He does the paperwork.

“He loves running through the bureaucracy of what a farm is. It took about eight hours to do the annual subsidy claim. It takes a day to do the annual Assured Combinable Crops Scheme Inspection.”

Referring to a photo of the Grand Tour host in his Diddly Squat Farm office, Ireland said:

“This is his office, and so he sits that side and I get the little plastic chair, which is on the other side of the room. The first time I went in, first day of filming, they said, you know, ‘you’re gonna come up and have a normal meeting with Jeremy’. [Ireland responded] ‘Okay. And what do you want me to talk about?’

“‘Well just, just have a normal meeting, you know, talk to him as you would your normal farmers about what’s happened’. It’s quite a challenge to have a normal meeting when you are faced with five cameras, five camera operators, three sound crew, two technicians, and about eight producers.

“Everybody’s a producer. If they’re not operating something they’re definitely a producer, lots of producers in television.”

It was recently confirmed that the second series of Clarkson’s Farm will be released on Prime Video on 10th February 2023.
