Jeremy Clarkson Defends Farmers: “People Don’t Pay Enough For Their Food”
Jeremy Clarkson has appeared on The News Agents podcast and has claimed that people living in the UK “do not pay enough for their food”, whilst the cost of living crisis is still ongoing.
The Grand Tour host explained:
“People simply don’t pay enough for their food. The one thing a government will never say ‘oh you’ve got to pay more for your food, you don’t pay enough’.”
Podcast host, Emily Maitlis who was joined by co-host Jon Sopel, responded:
“So Jeremy Clarkson says prices should go up?”
Clarkson was quick to re-emphasise his point, saying:
“Yeah, they should. They should be double what they are, you know to get out and do that sort of work.”
The former Top Gear host has done a lot for the farming industry since he took over the work on his Diddly Squat Farm in 2019, through showing a realistic view of what farmers go through physically and financially through his hit farming show, Clarkson’s Farm.
Since the shows release, Clarkson received a lot of praise from the farming industry for shedding more light on it.
Viewers saw in the first season of the show that Clarkson only turned over a tiny profit and he has been very open that the only way he has been able to keep the farm going when problems crop up is from his Who Wants To Be A Millionaire earnings.
Throughout his time at Diddly Squat Farm, Clarkson has tried to expand the business with the farm shop and also a restaurant that was later closed down for not abiding by the planning regulations.
Fans are eagerly waiting the second series of the show, although no specific release date has been confirmed yet, a source close to production has said it should be released on Prime Video between January and March 2023. Whilst we are waiting for the second series, it has already been confirmed that there will be a third and that filming has already started.
