Amazon TV Chief Says Sacking Clarkson Was ‘The Dumbest Thing

“The show is really not about the format, it’s about him and James May and Richard Hammond,” says Amazon TV chief, Conrad Riggs to the Daily Star.

“It was like firing Oprah from The Oprah Winfrey Show,” he said when commenting on the events following the ‘fracas’ moment where Jeremy Clarkson punched Top Gear producer, Oisin Tymon – apparently over steak.

“I thought it was the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen a network do.

“It was a great opportunity for us, he’s a global star.”

“The show is really not about the format. It’s about him and James May and Richard Hammond. They could probably do a show about cooking, and it would be successful as well.”

And it’s true isn’t it? We’ve watched them take on the renovation of a garden, aptly named Top Ground Gear Force (a piss-take of the British TV program, Ground Force) and it was hilarious. They just applied their brilliant character traits to a different situation and boom! It was a hit. And possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen being done for charity – that charity being Sports Relief.

You can watch it here:

It really is amazing, and certainly worth the 46 minute watch.

What other programs do you think they could pull off? Let me know what you’d love to watch them do in the comments below!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
