Classic Clarkson, Hammond and May: Getting Inside Some of the Jokes from Episode 5

The humor of The Grand Tour is something that takes a lot of getting used to, especially for newcomers to the show. We thought it would be a good idea to help you understand some of the British humor that may make most people scratch their heads, starting with the subtle ones from Episode 5.

We’re going to try and go back and find some of the inside jokes from the previous four episodes, but since this idea literally just came to me, I thought I’d give it a go on Episode 5.

Here we go:

The running joke of intro cards as they enter new destinations:

James May constant snacking throughout the studio taping was a tribute to the Netherland’s legalization of marijuana and the typical munchies one would get from the herbal treatment. Later on, Richard Hammond reinforces this joke by calling May “Bob Marley” which is a reference to the Jamaican superstar who loved the country enough to make a song lyrics about it  – “Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side”

Another thing the Netherlands are famous for is their redlight district, which the boys took full advantage in paying a tribute during the weekly celebrity killing.

With a red light district, there’s going to be a marketplace for the sex toys and accessories, so the boys took full advantage of Amazon’s “flexibility” and showcased some of the merchandise they found.
