Is The Grand Tour Going To Ukraine? Filming Begins For New Episode

We’ve recently reported that The Grand Tour has traveled to Poland for their next special episode. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May landed in Gdansk, a city to the north of the country, and here they met their three cars. But now fans are wondering whether this could be the beginning of a road trip into Ukraine.

Clarkson is driving a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde – a car based on the Nissan Silvia S13 – Hammond is driving a Chevrolet SSR, and May is driving a Crosley Convertible. Each of these cars are ugly in their own way, but despite this, they now begin their trip.

To do what exactly? Um, we’re not sure. It’s far too early to tell what they’re doing, but they’ve been spotted again in Gdansk and we can get a proper view of the cars. First, check out the video below to se the leaked footage that alerted us to this:

Since this, these photos have also emerged:

It’s obviously early days for the presenters who have just arrived, but Facebook users have confirmed they were spotted on Długia Street in Gdansk, which according to Google Maps is entirely pedestrianised.

This area is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the city as it leads from the Golden Gate to Długi Targ square. But interestingly, fans of the show are now wondering if they’re going to be traveling down the country towards Ukraine.

“Ukraine maybe,” one fan speculated. “If they stay to western side they’re away from main fighting and could be similar to Middle East special on Top Gear when went into Iraq.”

This is certainly feasible, with even Jeremy Clarkson hinting that he’d be interested in going to Ukraine on Twitter:

“Quick pitch,” a Twitter user posted, tagging the presenter. “You and the fellas outfit a few armored recon vehicles and race to #Ukraine #UkraineRussianWar.”

“That’s weird,” Clarkson replied. “I had the exact same thought last night.”

It’s a good 7 hour drive directly to the Ukraine border from Gdansk, so potentially they could be travelling to Ukraine, but I’m not sure I see the connection between the cars they’ve chosen and this idea. But, in the past the trio has driven to Chernobyl in three small hatchbacks, so let’s not make assumptions too soon.

Jeremy Clarkson has been very vocal about his support for Ukraine, with him posting multiple tributes to the country during his time recording the Grand Tour special in Norway:

He even lashed out at Russian F1 driver Nikita Mazepin who had shown a disregard for the war.

“Nikita Mazepin. You f****ng r****d. Go and race in Russia on your own,” he posted to Twitter. “You’d still lose.”

Jeremy’s passion for the people of Ukraine is strong… could this be his way of showing support?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
