Jeremy Clarkson Could Be Getting Fired, But Not For His Meghan Markle Column
According to a source of the Telegraph, Jeremy Clarkson is being fired by Amazon after his column on Meghan Markle, but the streaming giant is using that as an excuse to rid themselves of Jeremy because he simply isn’t in the right “league”.
It’s been rumoured for days now that the ex-Top Gear host is being fired by Amazon because of his comments on Meghan Markle. Alongside this, it’s also looking as though ITV may not renew their contract with the presenter as they look at other potential candidates to spearhead their Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? quiz show.
Before the rumours came to be, a source told fans via SmallScreen that Amazon was “incandescent” with rage towards Clarkson:
“Amazon has put a lot of trust, time and money into Clarkson and his projects. However, their patience with him following his recent column in The Sun might be coming to an end.
“It’s a waiting game. The next seasons [of Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour] are still ‘officially’ moving ahead, but Clarkson’s never been in so much trouble with the company and they are not happy.
“These shows aren’t all just about Jeremy, but he does like to make things about himself, and that makes the next steps very hard indeed for Amazon.”
Now, from a source from the Telegraph who is reportedly close to Amazon, they’ve published:
“Any speculation that this has anything to do with anything like that [Harry and Meghan] is nonsense.”
A media analyst added:
“Amazon’s only interest in anything it makes or sells is does it make a profit?
“This is a company that sells Mein Kampf, the Communist Manifesto, the Big Book of Serial Killers and Prime Video has a documentary on Charles Manson’s final words. I don’t think Jeremy Clarkson is quite in that league.”
With many fans reviewing the shows poorly, especially after they moved away from the tent setup and towards a special episode format, this could be the right time for Amazon to bow out. Using this drama as the reasoning makes the streaming giant look good to the majority of the population, while also removing a problem. Two birds, one stone.
