Jeremy Clarkson Teases Rally Car Showdown between Lancia and Audi

Over the past few weeks, Jeremy Clarkson seemed to have forgotten about having a Drive Tribe community. But just a few days ago, he finally made another post – and this post proved quite interesting.

TGT Season 2: Lancia vs. Audi

Clarkson recently shared the following picture, along with the words “This week, I’m driving a Renault Twingo. Last week was better.”

The picture shows an Audi Quattro S1 and a Lancia Rally 037 on what appears to be The Grand Tour’s racetrack, the Eboladrome. Are we going to see a showdown between those two great rally cars in TGT’s second season?

It most certainly would be lots of fun to watch those rivals doing a face-off. During the early 1980s, Audi and Lancia battled each other for becoming World Rally Champion. While the Audi Quattro won the WRC as Constructor’s champion in 1982 and 1984, the Lancia Rally 037 beat Audi to it in 1983.

However, what’s so special about the Lancia Rally 037 was the fact that it became the last rally car without all-wheel-drive to ever win the WRC. The Audi quattro on the other hand got its name from its four-wheel-drive.

Overall, for many rally-fans today the Audi quattro and the Lancia Rally 037 are considered to be two of the greatest rally cars ever build. The sound of the quattro-engine counts as legendary and inspires fans on youtube to do tribute-videos like this one:

The Lancia Rally 037 also get’s its way and Lancia-enthusiasts still organize specific Lancia-tribute races:

Therefore, we are sure that many viewers of The Grand Tour would love to see those two great cars driving against each other on the Eboladrome.

Anyway, Jeremy also states that “this week” he is driving a Renault Twingo. Maybe that’s another hint at what’s coming in TGT’s second season? I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Jeremy Clarkson ranting on about how the Twingo is one of the worst cars in history?

What do you think? Do we get to see a face-off between the Lancia and the Audi in November? Let us know in the comments down below.

  1. The Twingo can’t be the worst car in history. For it to be so, it would have to be a car that James May owns(ed)
