The Grand Tour

The Best Moment From Jeremy Clarkson’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

We loved Clarkson’s take on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. It was funny, and filled with pure Clarkson humour that we’ve been missing in our time off of The Grand Tour. In fact, Clarkson was by far the best part of the show (not such a surprise) as the contestants seemed to do pretty poorly.

But, as this is Clarkson we’re talking about, there are some bits that don’t go quite right. Here are the 7 funniest, most awkward, and best bits of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Number 7 – Clarkson Embarrasses Contestant

As I mentioned before, the contestants didn’t seem to be too knowledgable about… most things. Ricky, who just used a lifeline on a geography question – something that he said he was very good at – didn’t know anything about cricket either, so turned to the ‘Ask The Host’ lifeline. Clarkson quickly declared, “I hate cricket,” before giving him the right answer. Not before embarrassing him, of course.

Number 6 – Clarkson Stumped

Finally! A car related question… although this one had Clarkson and the contestant thinking. What shape is a stop sign?He first of all phoned a friend. He didn’t know – useless yet again. So as a final hurrah, he asked Jeremy… who didn’t know either. “Stopping is for other people,” he exclaimed. Eventually they both steered themselves towards the right answer, but it was pretty heavy for a moment. It was an octagon… if you were interested.

Number 5 – Clarkson’s Sorry Face

During a question about liquor, the contestant chooses the lifeline, ‘Ask The Host’. Clarkson explores all the possibilities, but finally chooses the answer ‘blackcurrants’. He uses his vast knowledge on spirits and travel experience to narrow it down to this answer, but isn’t completely sure he’s got it right. So, to ready himself just in case it is wrong, he wields his ‘sorry face’.

Number 4 – His Sincere Apology

Not even Clarkson knows everything, so when being asked a question for £7,000, I’m sure the pressure can sometimes be overwhelming. Embarrassingly, however, Clarkson did actually mention the right answer, but instead chose to leave her with no definitive answer or ideas. Who can blame him, who pays attention to art these days?

Number 3 – Awkward Phone a Friend

When even a producer from the show is sat with you to make sure you’re not Googling an answer, it must be pretty hard to miss the ‘phone a friend’ phone-call. Well, that’s exactly what happened here thanks to something to do with security or… well we didn’t get the full picture due to Clarkson cutting him off. “‘We tune in to watch people win a million pounds, we’re not interested in your security arrangements,” he interjects. Thankfully.

Numer 2 – Clarkson Gets It Wrong

We’ve had slightly awkward videos so far, but this has to be the worst. On a question about an ibex and what type of animal it is, the contestant phones a friend. They arrive at the answer, ‘deer’. Thanks to his great experience travelling around the world seeing different animals, Clarkson accepts that as the correct answer before the computer confirms it. He gets the contestant’s hopes up, and kicks them back down again as he admits he’d got it wrong. Most cringeworthy piece of TV so far? Yes, possibly.

Number 1 – A Deserving Winner

No one did overly well, apart from Gareth who won a whopping £125,000. He lost a leg years ago, but fortunately, his misfortune helped him win the prize money as the answer was where the horrible accident took place. A sympathetic placement of a question, or a coincidence? Who knows, who cares. We’re so glad Gareth was able to win this amount of money and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Alex Harrington

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
