The Grand Tour’s Jeremy Clarkson Targeted By Russia-Based Hacker Group

The Grand Tour host, Jeremy Clarkson, has reportedly had his personal details leaked on to the dark web by Russian hackers, as well as other famous public figures.

The data privacy breach has happened after an up-market farm shop was targeted by a Russia-based hacker group called, ‘Snatch’, supposedly after the 2000 Guy Ritchie film. Gloucestershire Live reported that the hackers shared the details on the dark web after trying to blackmail the shop, Daylesford Organic.

The other known celebrities that have been targeted so far are national treasure Sir David Attenborough, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, and ex-tennis player Tim Henman.

The company that owns Daylesford Organic also has an online business and four satellite shops in London. Snatch tried to blackmail the company to pay a ransom in Bitcoin, which they did not do, so uploaded 80 gigabytes of stolen files, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The files include customer information, which is where Jeremy Clarkson and the other compromised famous people come in to it, as well as staff grievances, banking information, and confidentiality agreements. Personal information on the company’s owners has also reportedly been released, including Lady Carole Bamford, who is a Conservative Party donor along with her husband, Lord Bamford, chairman of JCB.

Daylesford Organic reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office, who said:

“Daylesford Organic made us aware of an incident. After reviewing the information, we gave data protection advice and closed the case.”

The National Cyber Security Centre has said that since the invasion of Ukraine, the threat to the UK remains higher than before.

This is not the first target for ‘Snatch’, they have previously targeted firms in the US, Canada and across Europe.
