Throwback Thursday: The Mustang Shelby GT500 Race

I’m going to be a bit selfish this week and pick an episode that may not have been considered one of the all-time greats but had a huge impact on me personally. I’m talking about Top Gear Series 19, Episode 3, the race between Jeremy in a 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500, and Richard and James in public transport.

I have always loved Mustangs ever since I was a child, but this episode just solidified my love for them and made it clear that I needed to buy my own, even if it wasn’t a GT500.

The race follows much of the same format as previous cars vs public transport races. Jeremy, fighting for the honor of the automobile, starts at Wembley Stadium in London behind the wheel of a 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 with it’s incredible 662 HP. Richard and James start in the same location and are pinning their hopes on the pan-European rail network.

What followed was an incredible history lesson of the Shelby name backed by the soundtrack of the GT500’s growl. On the other end of the spectrum, we got to see James run when they reach their destination of San Siro Stadium in Milan.

Who won the race? Guess you’ll have to watch and find out!
