Top Gear: Future Of Car Show Hanging In the Balance After Freddie Flintoff Crash

The Top Gear presenter Freddie Flintoff was involved in what sounded like a serious crash during filming for the car show. And after suffering both mentally and physically after the crash, the BBC car show has been put on hold.

The ex-cricketer was airlifted to hospital after the crash on the famous Dunsfold Park Aerodrome Test Track in December, and with an investigation ongoing into how the incident happened, Top Gear filming has been paused.

In fact, there’s no date set for filming to continue, leaving the show in a state of limbo at least for the time being.

Once the investigation comes to an end, only then will the team behind it decide whether to continue the show or to hang up the helmets for good.

Following the incident, Flintoff’s son said:

“He’s OK. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

“It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be OK.”

BBC also released a statement:

“Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately.

“He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.”

Fellow co-presenter Paddy McGuinness spoke about the fact the show could change hosts in the future in 2022 before the most recent series aired:

“It’s our show now and we’re all in it, you know, and who knows further down the line if it’ll stop here or carry on going… it’ll always change hosts.

“But for now, it’s not a case to reinvent – it’s just keeping up the good vibes of it and keeping the viewers interested, which it does every series, it gets more and more viewers. And that’s all we can do. Those feelings of reinventing it and pressure and everything else kind of went with the first series for me.”

Grand Tour Nation will be following this story closely.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
