Top Gear Track Experience Shuts Down: Blames New Top Gear

Perhaps indicating a signs of things to come for the already spiraling BBC, the company TGXP Limited, which has for years run the “Top Gear Track Experience” in which fans of the show had the opportunity to themselves be “a star in a reasonably priced car” on the fabled Top Gear test track, as well as other behind the scenes opportunities, shut down shop.

Much to the chagrin of the BBC, the company gave exceptionally short notice of its decision to close, cancelling all current bookings, citing finances. The company stated “Please be advised that TGXP Limited, which operated the Top Gear Track Experience days, has ceased to trade with immediate effect due to its financial position.” They also issued a statement saying “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank everyone who participated in the Top Gear Track Experience over the last two years – for their custom, enthusiasm, for great feedback and support.”

According to a private source of the UK news outlet, the Mirror, the bad ratings and continuous loss of viewers of this year’s Top Gear TV series are the main reasons to blame for the sharp drop in bookings for the company.

The newest season of Top Gear, which featured Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc was sharply criticized and had historically low viewership, not seen before with the previous and much beloved hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond during their tenure on the show.

The trio has been widely credited with the massive global success of the show, and their newest venture The Grand Tour, exclusively available through Amazon Prime, is expected to do exceptionally well, and has been well reviewed by those privileged enough to have attended a taping

  1. I have prime so I will be watching grand tour as for the other one – not a chance utter crap!

  2. Dear BBC, there is a way to fix this. No one is going to accept Top Gear in its form anymore. You have to go back and transition. You’re going to have to pay the trio a ridiculous amount of money. Use their faces on the set, and show clips from seasons past. Have them come on the show for a few episodes to interact and and endorse their new presenter counterparts, and hand off the show SLOWLY over at least 3 special episodes. Perhaps an entire season.
If this works, you can pay me a savior fee of lets say… oh just pay off my mortgage and I’ll call it good.

  3. Waiting for The GT I feel like an over excited child waiting for Christmas morning….. In contrast, waiting for the new Top Gear (if there is going to be one!) is about as forthcoming as sitting in the dentist chair waiting for those teeth to be pulled out… or just like waiting for the new series of 5th Gear!

  4. THE TRIO WERE WHAT MADE TOP GEAR “TOP GEAR” I CAN FIND OTHER CAR SHOWS TO WATCH THEY ARE THE REASON I WATCHED TOP GEAR AND ARE THE REASON I WILL WATCH GRAND TOUR …. AMAZON CAN THANK THEM FOR MY MEMBERSHIP CAUSE IT IS THE ONLY REASON I JOINED PRIME

    1. I’m pretty certain that various torrent sites will distribute The Grand Tour mere hours after it has been broadcast on Amazon.

      1. Correct. I will be awaiting pirates to release torrents of the show too, as I did with UK Top Gear (USA airings of UK Top Gear absolutely butchered the European version’s soundtrack with generic music).

  5. I will watch TG as I don’t have an Amazon Prime account. The good news is that TG can’t get any worse than last season. Right? 🙁

    1. I love your optimism, but unfortunatly, I think it started at the bottom and is going to go downhill from there!
