America is swamped with large trucks and SUVs. Even New York, the least likely place you’d ever need such a large car, is filled with the things. Only yesterday did we tell you about an accident that happened with an SUV in New York where a pedestrian got stuck underneath one after being hit by it. But Dodge has an answer.
The American company who brought us the all-powerful Challenger Hellcat is adding the Durango to the Hellcat family, with the Hellcat engine being placed under the hood of the large SUV. As usual, the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 will produce 707hp, but unlike in the Challenger and Charger, it will be sent to all four wheels. Each of those horses will be channelled through an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and thanks to this, it’s rumoured that it will be able to hit 60mph in a supercar-killing 3.6 seconds, all while enjoying the whine of the 2.3-litre supercharger that’s producing 11.6lbs of boost.

But of course, this behemoth of a car will need to come to a stop at some point, so each corner has been given 13.8-inch brake rotors, and a limited-slip differential will help it negotiate corners.
The Durango Hellcat will be revealed at the New York International Autoshow this April.
