Abbie Eaton And Jorge Calado Rip Up Brands Hatch With A McLaren 620R

The latest episode of Track Mode is here, and this time The Grand Tour’s Abbie Eaton and racing driver Jorge Calado take us to Brands Hatch to show us just what they’re capable of behind the wheel of a McLaren 620R.

Jorge begins the episode by introducing the fact that they’ve both driven plenty of models from the British super car manufacturer. But he adds that Abbie hasn’t always been so positive when it comes to reviewing them. She admits that they don’t have the drama that their Italian competitors boast, but with the 620R sporting a host of racey features like a roof scoop and slick tyres, she’s looking forward to driving it.

They both introduce the car and its performance stats, including its potent twin-turbo V8 that produces 620 horsepower and 620Nm of torque, plus a few things borrowed from the GT4 racing car.

Of course, like all Track Mode episodes, the focus is in fact on the track and not the car. Brands Hatch is one of Britain’s most famous motorsport landmarks, and has a surprising story behind the beginning of its life. This is explored in the video before we get a turn-by-turn run down by these two experienced racing drivers.

Two things quickly become apparent: The McLaren 620R is one hell of a car, and the track matches this with its intoxicating undulations and blind spots. You get even more of an insight on how the track winds and straightens when Jorge takes to the wheel and Abbie narrates his driving.

Once again, Track Mode comes through with another great episode. Hopefully the pandemic will son allow Abbie and Jorge to stretch their legs further afield.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
