Bugatti’s Next Model Could Be An All-Electric SUV Daily Driver

SUVs have been flooding the market in recent years, with even our favourite supercar marques giving in to the high sales and inevitable revenues. It’s just so difficult to say no to that end of year’s bonus, right? Bugatti is the latest company to hint at an SUV when they declared that a second model alongside the Chiron is on its way.

Speaking with Autocar magazine, the VW Group brand has confirmed that a second model is in the works, and will either take the shape on an SUV or a four-door grand tourer. We, of course, would prefer the latter. Bugatti’s accountants are presumably eyeing up the former. But maybe, more importantly, company boss Stephan Winkelmann explains that this new car will be a daily driver, over the weekend toy Chiron.

Bugatti second model SUV could be EV

The second model, whatever form it takes, will be engineered to be used on a daily basis, and therefore should be adapted to the daily trials of a normal day. So, maybe the quad-turbo W16 is out of the question?

“In my opinion, electrification would be the right approach,” said Winkelmann. A hybrid is not where Bugatti wants to take its car as that is not the cutting edge of technology. This new car will either be fully powered by an internal combustion engine, or it will run an entirely electric powertrain.

While you may be wondering if this daily driver will dilute the brand’s exclusivity, this car will still only be built in limited numbers. We’re talking low thousands, here. And if the vehicle is to be an EV, then they won’t be competing in this range battle that’s plaguing our press releases right now. Instead, they will focus on performance metrics such as acceleration and, you guessed it, top speed. They would also insist on fast charging times, comparative to stopping at a fuelling station.

That’s a lot of questionable information from the makers of the fastest car in the world. So what can we safely take away from this after sifting through the dust?

A second model is coming alongside the Chiron. It is more than likely going to be an SUV. An EV is plausible, but I would think Bugatti wouldn’t put their trust in such a volatile and quickly changing market. Instead, I expect an SUV that focusses on luxury and drivability, but one that also undercuts competitors in regards to performance. Will it use a chassis similar to that of the Urus? No, expect something built from the ground up.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing Bugatti’s portfolio grow, and here’s hoping I get the chance to drive it.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
