Cars & Coffee Block All Tesla Superchargers During Car Meet
A Cars & Coffee group in Yorktown, New York have lately been pictured blocking all of the Tesla chargers with non-Tesla vehicles. As you can see from the photo above and below, muscle cars and high performance sports cars were taking part in what’s now being referred to as ICE-ing.
A Tesla facebook page, Tesla Reporter, first reported on the subject and users were obviously annoyed. While originally it looked as though the meet was specifically organised with a focus on ICE-ing, it later became apparent that the organisers weren’t involved. They in fact issued a reminder to all of their followers that Tesla superchargers shouldn’t be blocked.
“PLEASE REMEMBER TO NOT BLOCK THE TESLA PARKING SPOTS. There are folks that need to charge their cars on a Sunday morning. You would not want the entrance to a gas station blocked. Please be considerate,” they wrote on their Facebook page.
Despite this, many owners still decided to block the superchargers, meaning that Tesla owners had to either find the owner of a car and ask them to move, which is an inconvenience, or find somewhere else – difficult if you’re low on charge.

“(We’d) appreciate it if you could let them (the Tesla community) know we are addressing the issue… We will be sure to get the message out even louder to have Tesla charging spots available. I assure you it’s not intentional on our part. We will do our best to assure there are spots available for Teslas,” the organisers of the event responded.
With more and more Teslas on the road, it’s important that their charging network is unhindered, so if you’re planning to park somewhere whether it be for a show or not, keep to your designated bays.
Bunch of half wits – but what else do you expect from such people
Were there other spots open in the parking lot to park? It is easy to throw damnation at people but I would hope we could at least get the full story. I don’t see any pictures of open spots these cars could have been in. If there were spots available and they did this maliciously, then the anger is warranted. Otherwise, a parking lot is first come, first served.
I just checked Google maps street view for this location, and it’s part of a large strip mall with 100s of parking spaces all around. Check it out. 🙂
One gets the impression that these internal-combustion-vehicle owners are feeling threatened by the increasing presence of alternative-power vehicles, and possibly over-compensating for some real or imagined shortcoming on their own part. A fun solution might be to park your own vehicle (Tesla or not) near them and blast the song “Short Dick Man” on repeat out of the sound system in their general direction.
Or maybe they’re just annoyed so many spots are reserved. We probably need gas only spots to make it fair.
Or maybe they like internal-combustion-vehicles and are taking the piss out of the Teslas. I don’t know why you creeps are always so quick to go straight for the genitals. I’d much prefer the company of these car enthusiasts than creeps like you.
One gets the impression that this is rather sensationalized. Usually one can blame several other factors over malice. Was any Tesla owner actually denied from charging? Are they actually boycotting Teslas? Did anyone check their manifesto? I live and breathe the car community, and I have never met a car enthusiast in person that was threatened by a Tesla. At every meet I have been to, people are very curious and welcome them. I know petrolheads that actually own Teslas. I figure there is more to this story than the dimwitted slant of, “These gas car guys are mad and insecure because of electric cars, they must have small dicks”.
