Corvette C8 Z06 Spotted On Track Testing Launch Control With New engine

The lucky guys and gals at Road and Track have been sent a spy video of the new Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06, and boy does it sounds good. As Chris Perkins says in his article, it certainly does sound like an Italian supercar thanks to the flat-plane crank, dual-overhead cam engine from the Corvette C8.R race car… potentially.

The video shows the car doing a few launch control test runs, and it looks more than comfortable doing this over an over again at some serious speed. At full throttle, it also sounds very different from the standard C8, which wields a pushrod 6.2-litre V8 thanks to a different firing order to what you’d usually find behind the driver’s seat of a Ferrari. This Z06 boasts a sound that’s much closer to that found in Italy.

According to rumours, the V8 in the Z06 will be naturally-aspirated with the coined engine potentially being a 617 hp, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8. This is less power than the C7 Z06, but with a different engine layout to the previous iterations, it would be a very different beast to drive, regardless of power.

With the Ferrari 458 being a benchmark car for Chevy, we’re looking forward to seeing the marque’s take on an Italian supercar, especially as Ferrari’s V8s are now turbocharged.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
