Dodge Challenger Demon Sets World Record at 211mph

What sounds like a jet fighter and goes like stink? The Dodge Challenger Demon, apparently.

We know already that the Demon dominates the drag strip. In just 9.65 seconds it can dispatch its driver down a quarter mile like an after-thought, but its limiter greatly restricts its top speed capabilities. However, using Dodge’s optional Demon Crate, it’s possible to remove this leash that restrains the Demon from reaching its full potential.

Watch the video posted above, and you’ll see someone does just that, and then sends the car on its way down the runway at Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds. Here, it managed to hit a record breaking 211mph.

Not only that, but it managed to hit peak speed in just 2.7 miles, and was able to blaze past 200mph in just 38 seconds. While doing so, the side-on shot is able to pick up the menacing sound it makes as it soars past the cameraman, parting the air with its aggressive grill and snarly supercharged V8 engine.

If you didn’t want the 840bhp muscle car before, you certainly will now. But hey, that’s the magic of watching a 6.2-litre doing its thing. Now only if we could sit in the driver’s seat and feel the 1.8G’s worth of force it encapsulates you with as launch control takes over. One day.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
