Hummer Is Returning With A 1,000HP All-Electric Truck By GMC

The Hummer badge returns, but while it’s remembered for its Arnold Schwarzenegger grunt and military applications, not to mention its coal-rolling engine, this time it’s back with a twist. A whole lot of twist, actually. It’s been confirmed that it will have 1,000hp, off and on-road capabilities and, oh, it’s going to be fully electric. That’s right, the new Hummer is an EV.

As it’s been rumoured since 2014, it’s not such a surprise that the all-American truck has swapped its fuel-burning powerplant for a battery and a motor. Further details haven’t been revealed, though, like its range, rate of charge, and price. But how does 11,500 lb-ft of torque sound? And a 0-60mph time of around 3 seconds? What’s also prevalent is the fact that it won’t sit under the Hummer brand alone. It will, in fact, be under the GMC brand,

The teaser of the new Hummer features a grille that looks to be taken straight of the old H2 model, but with some additional daytime-running lights and modern touches to bring it into the ’20s. But it won’t be long to wait as they’re also teasing a full advertisement during the Superbowl that’s currently titled “Quiet Revolution”.

“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights,” says Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”

There’s one thing we want to bring up, though. The Hummer has never been afraid of being heavy with the bulkiest H1 weighing in at 7,558 lbs. But with an underpinning of batteries, and plenty of them we expect, weight could be a real issue and will surely affect its overall range. We’ll see how GMC deals with this.

The car is slated for a May 20 reveal, so for now we’re going to have to do with the teasers the company has given us. See them below.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
