1,200HP Lamborghini Huracan Suffers Tyre Failure During Highspeed Nurburgring Lap
The Nurburgring is a dangerous place, there’s no hiding that. But there are things you can do to escalate said dangers on the ‘Ring. For one, driving a car with four-figures’ worth of power puts you up there on the list. This video clip shows the awful moment when a highly modified Lamborghini Huracan race car finds itself with one less tyre while traveling at high speed. Thankfully, the driver was apparently holding on to a rabbit’s foot.
This ‘LP1200’ by Zyrus Engineering builds upon the Huracan Super Trofeo with a host of carbon fibre body panels, Ohlins suspension, an Xtrac sequential gearbox and, maybe the most important part of this equation, a twin-turbo setup on the already potent 5.2-litre V10. It produces 1,200 horsepower as the name suggests, and it goes likes stink.
Development driver Fredrik Sorlie was behind the wheel at the time as a rear tyre falls apart at a remarkably scary 132mph. This inevitably causes the car to spin, but the driver’s highly tuned reflexes manage to keep the car away from the barriers, limiting the damage the car receives.
Before this incident, Zyrus Engineering was aiming for this car to become the fastest Lamborghini ever to lap the Nurburgring, previously setting a time of 6:48.56, only four seconds away from the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Hopefully, the team will be able to get out there again to shorten that gap between it and the current bull that sits in first place.
