The third-generation Lexus LX has been discontinued after fourteen years on the market, and it’s time we bid it a fond farewell. It was well worth the wait, as the all-new fourth-gen LX SUV features upgrades on all fronts, including a revised platform that has shed more than 441 pounds (200 kgs) compared to its predecessor. Looking closer, that’s because Toyota’s new Land Cruiser, which won’t be sold in the United States, has lost the same amount of fat as a result of using TNGA-F architecture.

The styling is as striking as we expected it to be with the rise of large front grilles, and its side profile that reveals the LX is strongly influenced by its larger Toyota cousin. It’s worth noting that the Lexus has a slightly different quarter glass and rear pillar, but the overall form is largely identical. The main differences compared to the LC include a bigger spindle grille at the front and expanded use of chrome on the outside.

The redesigned Lexus, which gets its first dual touchscreen setup in the cabin, has some significant distinctions from the previous model. The upper screen of the 12.3-inch unit displays navigation and audio controls, as well as information about the Off-Road Monitor system when you’re off-road. The lower seven-inch screen offers fast access to the climate settings and may be used as a backup display for the Multi-Terrain Select by displaying camera feed on the upper screen and off-road data on the smaller display.

The LX’s body-on-frame SUV gets an Ultra Luxury grade for the first time since its inception in 1995, with a four-seat configuration that allows independent rear seats that may recline at up to 48 degrees for added comfort. For increased legroom of up to 43 inches (110 cms), press a button behind the front seat.

The LX Ultra Luxury adds further features, including overhead ceiling vents, reading lights, and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens as standard equipment. Lexus has installed comfortable seats with curved headrests and backrests, as well as cushions on the premium version, which have sunshades on the side and quarter windows. A middle screen between the rear seats provides most of the functionality associated with high-end executive sedans.

The Lexus LX is the first luxury vehicle from Toyota to offer a F Sport variant, which rides on 22-inch alloy wheels. It’s more than just a look package, as Lexus adds a Torsen limited-slip differential for better traction from the rear axle. The F Sport grade offers bespoke shock tuning for the front and rear dampers, as well as a rear stabilizer and altered variable suspension and electric power steering settings.

The 5.7-liter V8 engine has been discontinued, replaced by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 shared with the Land Cruiser. It generates 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, which is 26 more horsepower and 76 lb-ft more than before. A ten-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous eight-speed “box,” sending power to the road.

The 2022 Lexus LX follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, featuring a 112-inch wheelbase they call the”the golden ratio”. The approach and departure angles from the third-generation model have been retained. Crawl and downhill assist control, as well as an active height control with more settings than previous models, are all useful off-road abilities.

The fourth-generation LX will be available in the United States during the first quarter of 2022, according to Lexus.
