A New Nissan Z Is Being Revealed At The Tokyo Auto Salon With Even More Retro Styling

The Nissan Z arrived in the US market in August earlier this year, but it will be January next year before Japan itself gets the car on its own roads.

The Z’s design already harks back to many of the legendary and classic Zs across the history of the brand, but a new variant of the model will be released with a number of changes that will “nod to the Z’s heritage and fan enthusiasm”.

This new model, alongside a number of standard variants and a one-off custom car, will be shown for the first time at the Tokyo Auto Salon, and will fit the show’s “customizing atmosphere”, hinting at plenty of exterior modifications. While we were expecting a NISMO version, nothing has been said of that subject, and with the car not even fully released yet, this isn’t a shock.

We don’t anticipate any mechanical upgrades to the Z in 2023, since Nissan claims that the unique vehicle will consist of mainly aesthetic upgrades. As a result, the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 should produce 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 newton-meters) of torque through a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic. It’s likely this new model will be based on the manual car.

The Nissan Z road car will not be the only vehicle on display at the event, as the revitalized sports car will share the limelight with the GT500 version. The GT-R Nismo special edition, which has already sold out, will also be there, as well as a number of concepts based on the new Caravan. In addition, Nissan’s Nismo-spec Note Aura will be in attendance along with two custom concept cars and an Ariya electric crossover.

The 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon will take place at the Makuhari Messe convention center between January 14 and 16.
