All-Electric Chevrolet Silverado With 400-Mile Range Is Coming

GM has announced that an all-electric Chevrolet Silverado is on its way with the truck being planned to be built at the company’s  Hamtramck, Michigan plant alongside the new Hummer EV. And while we don’t know a lot about this upcoming truck, it’s been confirmed that Chevy is after a 400-mile EPA range.

This doesn’t come as such a surprise with GM already teasing an all-electric Silverado multiple times, with the most prominent being when it was used as a prop during a presentation on the company’s all-electric future. It was also seen in a preview of Chevy’s upcoming EVs a year ago when they were showing off the potential of lithium-ion batteries.

With the Silverado now being built alongside the upcoming Hummer EV, the factory is having its name changed to Factory Zero, reflecting its input into the EV future that lies ahead of it, despite it building over four-million vehicles, including the Chevrolet Bolt, since 1985.

“The vehicles coming from Factory Zero will change the world, and how the world views electric vehicles,” GM president Mark Reuss told us in an official statement. “The GMC Hummer EV SUV joins its stablemate in the realm of true supertrucks, and Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado—and more—and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike.”

Unfortunately, very little else is known about the car, including when we might expect to see the model put into production or even on the road. However, it has told us that new vehicle development runs for 26 months, a 50% cut from what it was previously, so we could guess that it would arrive sometime around 2023/24.
