An Original Hennessey Venom Is For Sale For $1.25 Million

The stretched Lotus Elise that gave Bugatti a headache is now for sale. Yep, a rare Hennessey Venom GT is up for grabs and it only costs $1.25 million.

Built on a 2010 Lotus Elise, the Hennessy Venom GT shares only the original cowl, windshield and vin. Everything else is handcrafted by Hennessy Performance Engineering. This Venom GT, like all other Venom GTs, packs a Chevrolet LS7 7.0-liter V8. It’s twin-turbocharged and tuned to produce 1,244hp. This powerhouse of an engine is mated to a Ford GT 6-speed manual, yes, manual, transmission, which takes this unruly power to the rear wheels.

What makes the Venom GT so special is that in the era of the all-powerful Bugatti Veyron, this car came along and dethroned it, with a top speed recorded at 270.49 miles per hour, although Hennessy claimed it achieved a higher top speed than that. Sadly for Hennessy, the Venom never officially held a world record because the Texan tuning company failed to produce the required 30 cars needed to qualify. With an original production run of an intended 29, Hennessy only made 13.

The Venom GT became a popular car in the world, with even the lead singer of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler, approaching Hennessy about producing a convertible version. His car was the first of a five-car production run that weighed 30lbs more than a standard Venom GT. His car was the first one produced in 2013 and was even talked about on Top Gear during his interview with Jeremy Clarkson. Notably, Tyler sold his GT in 2017 through Barrett-Jackson to the tune of $800,000. Quite a bit less than the $1.25 million this GT is for sale for.

Despite Hennessy only producing 13 of the 29 intended cars, the Venom GT helped pave the way for Hennessy’s very own production car, the Venom F5. With a theoretical top speed of over 300mph and an engine that produces 1,817hp, Hennessy’s plans for the F5 involves it challenging the likes of Bugatti, Ferrari and Koenigsegg for in regards to top speed. And after what we saw what the Venom GT was capable of doing, it seems like this could be a real possibility.

This Venom GT, chassis number 9, is for sale for $1.25 million and was built in 2014. It is believed to be the only privately owned vehicle to be shown on the Concept Greens at Pebble Beach. With such a limited run this is a rare occurrence, so if you’re fancying a Veyron killer, act now.
