Check Out This Retro Electrified Mustang With 470HP
It’s a shame that electricity is taking over the motoring world, but if it has to happen then what car would you want to electrify? Personally, I’d choose a car where the chassis is incredible, but the engine not so much. Let’s say the BMW i8? That’s in dire need of a completely electric powertrain.
What I wouldn’t choose is a Mustang, especially a classic Eleanor style with a V8 purr that even the most anti-combustion fanatic would adore. But hey, that’s exactly what Charge Cars has done.
This electric pony car, known as Charge Mustang by the British firm Charge Automotive, maintains the sleek but muscled looks of the original car, but underneath boasts a 64kWh battery pack. Power goes to four motors – one for each corner – meaning each wheel is driven with the power of 470hp and 1200Nm of torque. This Mustang is so hungry for tarmac, it can eat 60mph in under four seconds, but its range is slightly disappointing at only 200 miles.
Inside will appeal to the tech savvy, though, with a Tesla-style touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, and the tech under the bodywork is equally as savvy, coming from the same company that had input in recent McLarens, Jaguars, and a number of Formula teams.
Unlike the range figure, the price is quite high at a staggering £300,000, and for that price you could buy multiple classic cars, all the fuel you could ever need, and a Nissan Leaf to make yourself feel better. I’m not so sure this is going to catch on, y’know.
