Chevrolet Puts On Special Event For Father With Terminal Cancer Who’s Last Wish Was To See The New Corvette

Larry Webb has grown up adoring the American Chevrolet Corvette. Being such an enthusiast, he was avidly on the lookout for news regarding the latest mid-engined 2020 C8, but back in May this year, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bile duct cancer.

Chemotherapy and other treatments failed, so when he realised that he might not live long enough to see the reveal of the new ‘Vette, his son put some feelers out. This was his story, which he posted on Reddit.

Back in May, on my dad’s 70th birthday, he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. The cancer has been very aggressive. Chemotherapy and other treatments unfortunately have failed and he is his time is very limited.

The last time he was in the hospital he asked my wife and I “When do I get to see the new Corvette C8 on the road?”. When my wife told him they don’t release until 2020 the look in his eyes about killed me. My heart fell through the floor as he began to realize the chances of him seeing the 2020 Corvette was most likely not going to happen.

Long story short my wife reached out to GM and the awesome people at GM and Midway Chevrolet offered to bring one in for him to have a private viewing. They just decided to hold a public event on the 24th. So on August 23 my dad got to see the 2020 Corvette C8 up close and personal. They were not able to take him out for a ride as it was a prototype but they had a product specialists there and a few other people to give him a tour and answer all his questions. This was the same car Jay Leno test drove.

This was a total surprise to my dad. He knew he was going out on Friday but he didn’t know where or what for. I invited all of his friends to the event and it was amazing. They gave him a bunch of Corvette swag and a really cool coin that was giving out to the people who attend the unveil of the Corvette C8. He had a great time seeing all of his friends and getting a tour of the C8.

The motoring community is a great one. Even now, commenters on the Reddit post are offering their help. Dealership owners are offering drives out in their cars, others are offering their sympathies.

We need to remember how lucky we are to be involved in such a caring community, so when you next feel the need to start an argument or put someone down for liking a different car or getting a number wrong, think again.

Our love and prayers go out to Larry and his family.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
