Crazy Nurburgring Tesla Model S Track Car To Go Into Production

We’ve been talking for a while about the Tesla Model S that’s been doing the rounds at Germany’s famous Nurburgring. It’s highly modified with extra aerodynamic bits and pieces with a wider track and splitters and spoilers over its body, and is said to be the fitted with the ‘Plaid powertrain‘. Not only this, but it has semi-slick tyres, carbon ceramic brakes, and two extra seats. Interesting.

But we won’t have to guess much longer, as Elon Musk has told us on Twitter that this new variant will be going into production around the Summer of next year.

“The final configuration used at Nurburgring to set the record will go into production around summer 2020, so this is not purely for the track,” he says in a tweet.

It’s more than likely this configuration will be sold as a package which sits on top of the P100D variant, with it being possible that eventually, each model will have its own track focused variant, getting its power from the Plaid powertrain. Just how similar this production model will be to the car you can watch lapping the Ring at the moment is unknown, but if Musk wants to beat the Porsche Taycan fairly with a production car, it needs to be as close as they can get it.

Tesla is yet to comment officially on Musk’s tweet, but of course we will keep you updated as we know more.
