Dodge Confirms Next Challenger and Charger Models Will Be Purely EV – Death Of The V8

While the Ford Mustang may be retaining its delectable V8 in the upcoming 7th generation, Dodge has confirmed that it will not be doing the same.

Rumours have been circulating that Dodge will be keeping a V8 in its future Charger and Challenger, but a spokesperson from the Fiat-owned company has confirmed to Motor1 that this is not true. It will be removing not only the V8 from these two models, but all internal combustion engine options. Yes, the halo cars of the Dodge brand will be purely EVs.

“The story is incorrect,” Dodge told the outlet. “The Hemi in that platform, as well as that platform, are going away. The next generation will be BEV.”

The current platforms used in the Charger and Challenger is the LD and LA respectively. These allow for both a V8 or V6 to be dropped in, as well as an 8-speed auto gearbox for rear-wheel power, and are variations of the Chrysler LX chassis.

Dodge’s new all-electric muscle car is looking to be revealed in concept form in the new couple of weeks, and while Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis has admitted that this doesn’t mean ICE cars are a thing of the past, it’s looking like it won’t be far off. But Dodge isn’t going to let the V8 just simply die. There are rumours that the brand will be releasing a 900 horsepower variant so it goes out in plumes of tyre smoke.
