Dodge’s Challenger Drag Pak Has Been Delayed Until 2021

To start with, I’m going to take you back to Las Vegas, specifically the SEMA 2019 convention, a time before social distancing and face masks were a part of our daily lives. The event was full of excitement specifically aimed at the 2020 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, a Mopar ode to purpose built drag racing vehicles such as as the Chevrolet COPO Camaro and the Ford Mustang Cobra.

If you are one of the many avid drag racing enthusiasts who are willing to sell their house to get their hands on one of just fifty Drag Paks being produced, prepare yourself for some bad news.

The news comes from Mopar Insiders, the Dodge Challenger Drag Pak has been postponed until 2021, and you guessed it, it is because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Basically Dodge are continuing to work on the vehicle, but due to the majority of their team working remotely, it’s going to take a little longer.

I have to be honest with you, The Grand Tour Nation office is rife with surprise as to the fact that Dodge are dedicating any time at the moment to the Drag Pak, not only is it limited to only fifty units it is also very much not street legal and we thought they would be focussing all their energy on more commercially viable vehicles but we have to say, we’re pleased they’re continuing on with the madness.

The Drag Pak has an absolutely insane supercharged 5.8 litre V8 engine under boot, paired with a three-speed T400 racing transmission, parachute mount and chassis-integrated wheelie bars. Also included is a Racetech seat and roll cage.

I bet some of you out there are screaming at your screen ‘what about the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, that is Dodge’s premier drag racing vehicle’. Well yeah you’re right, but also the Drag Pak makes the Demon look like a Toyota Prius, so if you really want the best straight line racer that Dodge can build, you’d better hope you are one of the lucky fifty to buy one.
