Ford Mustang GT350 Officially Replaced By Mustang Mach 1

It’s official, the Ford Mustang GT350 and GT350R have both been sent to the scrapper, with these models being replaced by the new kid on the block, the Mach 1. It seems as though Ford isn’t so keen on having multiple special edition cars on the market at once, so in a bid to maintain the rarity of these models, will be cutting their lifespan short.

This move by the company was rumoured when the Mach 1 was first discovered, but only recently has it been confirmed by Ford, who said the following:

“With the 760 horsepower Shelby GT500 now in full stride, we will finish production of Shelby GT350 and GT350R this fall as planned. This makes the way for new additions to excite our passionate Mustang fans for 2021 model year – including the limited-edition Mach 1.”

What are these ‘new additions’ the statement describes? Well, we don’t know right now, but they must be extra trim levels to the current Mustang lineup, which surely includes the all-electric SUV, the Mach-E. The Mach1 on the other hand, we know a bit about.

While not badged with the Shelbee name, it does take parts here and there from the GT350 models such as the intake manifold and oil cooler. It also wears the same rubber in the form of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. At the rear you’ll find the GT500s wing, joined by rear tyre spats, rear diffuser, rear axle cooling system, heat exchangers and front subframe from the sixth gen.

While this sounds plenty to give us going, it won’t be long until the next-generation Mustang rolls around in 2023.
