Gutted Tesla Rules At Races

We all know that electric cars can jump off the line like nobody’s business, and we have seen more than our share of Teslas dominating at the track, but hey…why not make room for one more?

In this video posted by 1320video on YouTube, we see the Tesla Racing Channel guy racing his P100D against a host of other drag cars (with his face blurred out, no less, while wearing a Tesla Racing Channel shirt).

This particular car has the interior gutted with only a set of lightweight seats (the thinnest seats I have ever seen!), making a fast car even lighter and faster at 4400-4500 lbs:

With pretty much stock everything, this P100D basically walks away undefeated. The superior launch and AWD certainly helped it defeat Cobra, a twin turbo S197 Mustang GT (who nearly lost control and took out the crowd, naturally), two nitrous Foxbody Mustangs, and a Nissan GT-R.

It’s pretty funny watching all these people revving their engines, laying down tire marks and then getting handily beaten by the Tesla, but I feel this is where I should mention that we don’t condone street racing of any kind here. In fact, on a personal level, I have lost some friends due to street racing so it’s not really my thing, but I know it happens frequently and that there’s not much I can do about that.

That won’t stop me from marveling at some incredible cars, however!
