Guy Drifts For Six Hours And Wins Our Respect

I, like everyone else on this website, enjoys a bit of a drift once in a while. Some more than others who actually invest into their drifting happiness via a drift missile or some secondhand tyres for the odd drift day on the weekend.

Some of us just prefer to watch it on YouTube, and then there are people who decide to take on the Guinness World Records and pilot their GT86 through a six hour long drift to become the record holder for the longest drift ever attempted.

This man is Jesse Adams. He has recently taken the title from Harald Muller who set the previous record in 2014.

So how did he manage a six hour long drift? Well, in fact it’s not what you’re thinking. It was done on a wet skidpan and the rules set by the Guiness World Records are kind of… iffy. As long as the rear wheels don’t stop spinning, it counts as a drift. Even if the car spins out, it still counts. Same goes for changes in direction.

Yes, I’m thinking exactly the same as you, doesn’t really count in my eyes either.

Anyway, this all took place at the Gerotek Testing Facility in South Africa and lasted for five hours and forty-six minutes. A long time going sideways, I’m not sure I’d want to be the one in the drivers seat. I’m also surprised the fuel lasted that long, obviously with a wet surface the car didn’t have to be constantly on the rev-limiter.

Coupled with the fact the car set an average speed of only 19km/h, obviously the car wasn’t working too hard.

So who thinks they can beat it? How hard can it be? Just monitor your fuel usage and try not to throw up. Easy… right?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
