This is Hennessey’s New Venom F5 That Will Take On Bugatti
The Bugatti Chiron. The Koenigsegg Regera. Hell, the Model S P100D. These are just a few of the incredibly fast cars that have come around in the thousand or so years since Hennessey built their last record-breaking car, the Venom GT. Even though it was little more than a roided-out, blown Lotus Exige, it managed to squeak past 270 miles per hour at the Kennedy Space Center’s airfield in 2014 (it couldn’t take the official record from the Bugatti Veyron, however, as Hennessey were only able to complete one run and the record requires the average result of two).
Hennessey has been swearing up and down for years that they’ll replace the GT soon, with an even faster car called the Venom F5. It’s certainly less ugly than the GT, which looked like someone Photoshopped wheels onto a particularly unpleasant insect. The only images we’ve seen so far of the car have been idealistic renders, but Hennessey just released a video showing a little more of the car and its design process, as well as confirming a reveal date for the Vegas SEMA show on November 1st. There’s even a single shot of the car in motion–it looks surprisingly good in yellow.
The mid-engined, rear-wheel drive car is rumored to use an uprated version of the GT’s General Motors V8, and will weigh almost 500kg less than a Chiron. It should be good for over 290 mph if Hennessey’s estimates are to be believed (hence the F5 moniker, referring to the F5 designation given to tornadoes which exceed 261 mph). We’ll know more once SEMA rolls around; perhaps Bugatti should be worried.
