Hennessey Will Now Build You A 1,200HP Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray

With the new mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette C8 just about to come to the market, it’s no surprise that our favourite Texan tuning company Hennessey is alerting us of its next project. We know from past experiences that this Hennessey folk don’t do half measures, so when we tell you they’ve created a C8 with 1,200hp, try not to look surprised.

The factory fresh C8 will hit dealerships with a naturally aspirated LT2 6.2-litre V8, cranking out a stock power figure of 488hp. That’s certainly nothing to laugh at, especially when it will reach 60mph in under three seconds and will hit a hair over 200mph. Yeah, that kind of performance is fine with me, so what has Hennessey done?

Well, they’ve fitted two turbochargers to the engine, replaced the pistons with forged aluminium units with a 10.0:1 compression ratio, added forged steel connecting rods, and an “upgraded and fortified” factory dual-clutch transmission to hold the horses and torque. But you can’t have all that power and yet have the turbos suck away the sound. That’s why they’ve added their own stainless-steel exhaust system, too.

Later on, as Hennessey conducts more research around the car, an adjustable Penske suspension and Brembo brake package will become available. And if you decide that turbochargers aren’t your thing, then let them take a look at a supercharger to create 700 whining horses.

They’ll make sure you look the part, too, with a full carbon-fibre body kit including splitters, a racing-style air scoop, and of course a huge rear wing. If this isn’t American enough for you, then take note of the American flags adorning each side of the thing. Hoorah!

Pricing is yet to be revealed, but if you take a look at the interest form, it hints that it could be anywhere between $5,000 and $35,000. Hennessey will also listen to any additions you have, just in case what they’re offering isn’t enough.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]

So get the base Corvette, let Hennessey do their thing and it’s still a bargain.
