Hennessey Will Tune The All-Electric Porsche Taycan – Their Very First EV

It’s no new idea that the land of the internal combustion engine will one day be taken over by these shiny new electric motors everyone is starting to talk about. And yes fine, we’ve just about come to terms with that, but what about the tuning companies that make a living from boosting and upgrading fuel-fed engines?

Hennessey, well known for not only producing cars such as the Venom GT, but also for extracting mind-bending power from all sorts of vehicles, is now looking to the future. Specifically, they’ve got their eyes on the new Porsche Taycan, making it the very first EV to be tuned by the American company.

“We’ve been planning to do something with electrified vehicles for a while now,” explains HPE boss John Hennessey. “We felt that the new Porsche Taycan was the right platform from which to modify our first EV.”

Hennessey will get their hands on a Taycan next year, with the first modifications being largely aesthetics based. Wheels, tyres, interior changes and more aggressive front and rear bumpers will be first on the list, “after that,” John says, “we will see what might be possible in terms of adding more power.”

With the two stock motors producing the equivalent of 625hp in the Taycan, and with the Taycan S producing 761hp, it’s difficult to see what more you can drag from such an already potent powertrain. They can already hit 60mph in 2.8secs for the very fastest variant, and 0-125mph in under 10 seconds. Is there a need for more?

Hennessey think so. “Nearly all of our clients still want raw, powerful ICE engines,” he says. “But some of them have begun to add an EV to their collections for daily driver duties.

“We don’t want to reinvent the wheel in the electrified market, we just want to make it roll a little faster and cooler.”

More range would be nice as well please, John!
