Here’s Leaked 2022 C8 Corvette Z06, ZR1, And Hybrid Information

With the announcement of the C8 Stingray official specifications, the rumor mill immediately shifted to what the Z06 and ZR1 would be like. We got some leaks this week about what might be in store.

Flat Plane Crank V8

One of the biggest pieces of information to come out of the leaks is that there will be a flat plane crank V8 powering both the Z06 and the ZR1. This seems to be a certainty as a C8.R was caught testing at Sebring International Raceway, and it has a very exotic exhaust note.

That seems to be the only part of the information where all of the leaks agree.

Z06

According to a Car and Driver article, the Z06 will have a 5.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 that will produce over 600 horsepower and rev to over 8600rpms. Meanwhile, Motor Trend says that the engine will be a twin turbo V8 with a displacement between 4.2 and 5.5 liters. This powerplant could produce upwards of 800 horsepower. An upgraded 8 speed dual clutch transmission will mostly likely be the only transmission option, however a few rumors mention a possible 10 speed DCT, according to Automobile Magazine. Upgraded active aerodynamics and suspension will be offered as well. The Z06 will most likely be offered in the fall of 2021 as a 2022 model.

ZR1

The ZR1, or possibly named Zora, could be equipped with the twin turbo flat plane crank V8 if the Z06 has the NA V8. Expect well over 800 horsepower in the ZR1. Track focused aero and suspension will help this Corvette be the fastest version around a track.

Corvette Hybrid

Following in the footsteps of McLaren, Porsche, and Ferrari, there will be a hybrid Corvette. A twin turbo V8 will power the rear wheels and an electric motor, producing roughly 200 horsepower will power the front wheels. Total engine output could surpass the magical 1000 horsepower barrier.  A small battery will most likely be mounted low and close to the center of the vehicle. This version should be the fastest accelerating Corvette and one of the quickest accelerating vehicles in the world. The added weight of the hybrid components could hold this version back from being the quickest track Corvette offered.

All that we know for sure is that these Corvette versions will put the pressure on the other super and hyper car manufacturers to step up their game.
