It’s been six years since we were treated to a new Ford Mustang, and while there have been several interesting models since then to drool over, this is the most beautiful yet. This is the 2021 Shelby Super Snake, and while it’s available as a coupe, the one to have is the limited edition Speedster.
The rear seats have been removed to make way for a tonneau cover and an optional harness bar, and what we’re left with is arguably the most beautiful modern pony car ever to be released. But don’t worry, it goes just as well as it looks, with a Whipple supercharged 5.0-litre Coyote V8 sat under the hood capable of 825 horsepower. These horses can either be sent through a manual or automatic transmission, and with power sent only to the rear wheels, it achieves 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds.
Something so fast needs plenty of braking power, so Brembo brakes sit at each corner, as does Ford Performance track suspension that’s been retuned specifically for this car. Or, if you have the money, you can tick a box for an adjustable Penske system. Of course, it sits on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
20-inch forged aluminium wheels sit under an optional aluminium widebody that adds additional downforce from a host of splitters, blades, spoilers, and a diffuser at the rear. And of course, the body is finished with plenty of Shelby badging and an optional set of stripes to really take the branding home.
Inside you’re treated to additional badges, just in case the howl from the Coyote isn’t enough to remind you what you’re driving, and a numbered plaque tells you just how special this car is. But how special is it? Well, Shelby is only building 98 of these incredible cars for the United States. The Speeder variant only makes up 25 of that.
Price? With a donor car, you’re looking at $85,000. Without, it’s a tad steeper at $138,780. Worth every penny.
