When you hear the name Marauder, the first thing that comes to the mind of the average Top Gear/ Grand Tour fan is the military-spec vehicle that Hammond drove through South Africa on old Top Gear. However, the Mercedes-AMG version is a bit more…refined. It is also more sea-worthy, because it’s not a car at all, it’s an extremely fast (and expensive) boat.
Not just any boat. Though it was inspired by the recently announced Mercedes-AMG GT R, it’s a far cry from Jeremy Clarkson’s Toybota. No, the AMG Marauder is a purpose-built speed boat that is the result of the long partnership between AMG and Cigarette Racing. It’s also something of an anniversary present, as it celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG and also 10 years working with Cigarette Racing.
“Performance, perfection and passion are the values that unite Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing,” Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG.
Almost every bit of this 5o foot boat is crafted from carbon fiber, right down to the gauges. There’s room for five in the cabin, and the seats were created specifically for it by AMG’s Performance Studio. The lightness provided by the carbon fiber, in conjunction with the two Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines on board means that in race mode, this proverbial rocket ship has 3,100 BHP. That much might even satisfy the power-crazed Jeremy Clarkson.
Let’s talk about the color. Both the GT R and the Marauder are seen here in “Green Hell Magno.” The name refers back to the infamous North Loop, or Nordschleife as it is known in German, of the Nurburgring. The oldest portion of the infamous track was so dangerous, it was dubbed the Green Hell by legendary F1 racer, Jackie Stewart following his 1968 German Grand Prix victory.
For our billionaire readers, you might be wondering where you can get your hands on one of these, and that’s where the bad news comes. No where in the extensive description on Cigarette Racing’s website does it mention a price. For our regular readers, if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.
To be fair though, it’s also pretty unlikely that you’ll be able to afford the Mercedes inspiration for the Marauder, the AMG GT R. Though, it’ll be hard to know because it’s not actually for sale yet, and won’t be until the summer of 2018. It is possible, however, to preorder one through a dealer, if you dare. Given what we know of previous AMG models, the price is likely to not be the only part of it which could be described as “aggressive.”
