Mitsubishi Teases All-New Hybrid Colt For 2023 Release

The famous Mitsubishi Colt is making a return with 2023 seeing a return of what used to be a popular name from the ’60s to the release of Gran Turismo 4. It’s been forgotten recently, but now the Japanese marque is bringing a new Colt to Europe to celebrate the model’s 60th anniversary. And how else to start the buildup? A teaser image, of course.

We don’t yet know the performance stats or details on the powertrain, but it’s been confirmed that the car will use the CMF-B platform. This means it will have five doors, and will occupy the baby hatch space within the company’s portfolio.

On the front door, clearly shown in the teaser, sits a badge reading “hybrid EV”, obviously hinting at a hybrid powertrain setup similar to that of the Renault Clio E-Tech hybrid. Here, a 1.6-litre engine is paired with an electric motor to produce around 140 horsepower. We wouldn’t be far off the mark to expect a six-speed auto gearbox, a 0-62mph sprint of around 10 seconds, and a top speed just a sniff over 110mph.

Yes, not very fast. But we’re seeing growth of Mitsubishi! A company that looks like it’s been dying for some time now, and that in itself is a very interesting and exciting thing. And from the vague outline of the teaser, the new Colt is looking to be quite an attractive piece of machinery. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too much longer for more details to be released as the car is looking to arrive Fall of next year.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
