Mitsubishi Teases Weird Looking SUV Concept

A few months ago, we heard that Mitsubishi was going to focus on SUVs, and only SUVs. This is a massive shame, especially after the legendary racing heritage of the Japanese company, and exceptional rally presence. But, in a sea of SUVs that are all almost identical, Mitsubishi has given us hope.

While they were absent from the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, they’ve been working on something behind the scenes, and from what we’ve been shown, it looks very… strange. It’s a plug-in hybrid that focusses on a light-weight design in a small package. Unlike a lot of small SUVs on the road, though, this will still be four-wheel drive.

According to Mitsubishi it “delivers unparalleled driving pleasure and confidence over all terrain in light and wind”, and “offers reassurance and safety in everyday driving about town, while allowing drivers of all abilities to confidently push further over the unmade or rough road surfaces when engaging in outdoor activities.”

– Dakar cooling

This obviously touches upon the world renowned off-roading skills of Mitsubishis, which this SUV will hopefully maintain. Plus, with a design that looks similar to Dakar rally trucks with cooling on the mid section of the roof, this car will hopefully reflect some of the off-road performance of those machines.

More details should be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year which will run between October 25 and November 4 in Japan, where the full SUV will be revealed to the public eye. With Mitsubishi focussing on SUVs, I’m hoping that this will be a tad special. If not, then I wonder what the marque’s unique selling point will be, or if it has one at all.

Let’s stay open-minded, at least for now.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
