NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace Subject To Sickening Racist Attack

On Sunday, at the NASCAR race in Alabama, a noose was found in black driver, Bubba Wallaces, garage stall. The racist attack comes less than two weeks after he was at the forefront of a successful campaign to ban the confederate flag from the sport.

NASCAR said they have launched an immediate investigation and has promised to do everything possible to find the culprit(s) and “eliminate them from the sport”:

“We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act. As we have stated unequivocally, there is no place for racism in NASCAR, and this act only strengthens our resolve to make the sport open and welcoming to all.”

Wallace, who is the only fulltime Black driver for NASCAR’s elite Cup Series, posted the following powerful statement on his twitter:

This standalone act is despicable, but Bubba Wallace has the support of his fellow drivers, and the sporting world around him during this difficult and quite frankly scary time. The 26 year old who comes from Alabama and drives for Richard Petty Motorsports noted in his statement:

“Over the last several weeks, I have been overwhelmed by the support from people across the NASCAR industry including other drivers and tea members in the garage. Together, our sport has made a commitment to driving real chance and championing a community that is accepting and welcoming of everyone. Nothing is more important and we will not be deterred by the reprehensible actions of those who seek to spread hate.”

NBA legend and sporting icon, LeBron James also tweeted his support to Wallace and NASCAR:

Hopefully this is an isolated incident that Bubba Wallace will never have to go through again, we hope NASCAR’s investigation is successful and the appropriate chargers are brought to whoever is responsible. We hope that one day we will see racism stamped out of sport.
