Porsche Will Charge You For Your Taycan Engine Sounds – $580 For An Mp3

It’s becoming evermore important for electric cars to make a sound that pedestrians can hear due to safety concerns. This is so important, that it’s become the law. But if you think that auto manufacturers aren’t going to use this law to make some more cash to prop up their income sheet, then think again.

Jalopnik has found that Porsche aren’t going to shy away from getting a few extra quid out of your pocket, and as you can see, it’s tastefully placed under the performance tab on the Taycan configurator.

$580 seems a stupid price for an mp3 file, but just goes to show how much someone will pay for the sound of an internal combustion engine. Although that does beg the question as to why they’re bothering with an all-electric car in the first place. Let’s face it, we live in a weird time.

So, to highlight how stupid this is, I’ve had a look for what you can get for $600.

The first decent thing I found was this 1982 Ford Thunderbird. Needs a bit of TLC, but I’d much rather take this over audio I could find on YouTube.

Or how about this Volvo V70? Again, a bit of a service is needed but these engines could take you to the moon and back. It would sound like an engine, too. That bit’s free.

the best one so far: a ’97 Ford Explorer with, yes a few miles, but it runs and drives! Does it get better than that?

Let us know what you’d buy for $600 over a blimin’ speaker sound.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
