Sean Connery, James Bond Actor Dies at 90

James Bond actor, Sean Connery passed away in his sleep last night at the age of 90. The world renowned superstar died last night surrounded by his family in the Bahamas. The actor had been “unwell for some time” his son said, and died peacefully in his sleep.

Sean Connery, once called “the greatest living Scotsman” , was most known for the role of James Bond. Connery is responsible for building and making the franchise into the global hit that it is today and really sent James Bond into the stratosphere. He was not just a superstar but a global icon. Having set the precedent for all James Bond actors to come, Connery was clearly the best Bond there has ever been and ever will be. Some say that Connery helped define the era of the 60’s and was just as important as the Beatles. Having perfectly defined the character of James Bond, new actors appointed to the role can only hope to accurately portray him, and never beat him.

Bond…James Bond. The sophisticated and stylish actor portrayed more than just a British spy. Connery starred in the film Marnie (1964) directed by one of the greatest directors of all time, Alfred Hitchcock. He also appeared in films such as Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989) and The Hunt For Red October (1990). However, It was his 7 appearances as James Bond that truly immortalized him. After James Bond’s initial rise to fame, the budget for the films increased massively. In his 3rd James Bond instalment (Goldfinger 1964) Connery gave us his greatest gift yet, he gave Bond the Aston Martin.

James Bonds cars were always modified with the greatest gadgets that Q could offer. From ejector seats to the underwater driving Lotus, James Bond always had the best car for the situation. Of all these cars the most undeniably iconic Bond car that there is, has to be the Aston Martin DB5. They are even bringing the DB5 back for the latest James Bond instalment, No Time To Die. The modern James Bond cars are almost all exclusively Aston Martins, but that wasn’t always the case. James Bond drove everything from a Ford Mustang to a Mercury Cougar.

Sean Connery will forever be known as the greatest 007. He is the one that gave us the dream of cruising up to the country club in a silver DB5, wearing a perfectly fitting tuxedo with a supermodel on your arm. Not only will he be missed but he will never be replaced, because there is only one Sean Connery. May he rest in peace.
