Stock 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 Runs 10 Second 1/4 Mile

A teenager who goes by the name of Speed Phenom has just ran the quarter-mile using a 2020 Ford Mustang GT500. The muscle car completed the run in just 10.665 seconds at a speed of 132.96 mph.

According to the driver, his GT500 was the first customer car to make it onto the dragstrip, and what a moment it was. But watching the video, you get the idea that this was his first time on-track, with him asking his co-pilot at one point, “Did I let off too early, do you think?”. This certainly bodes in the favour of the car, with an even lower drag time possible with a more experienced driver behind the wheel.

The car itself is powered by a 5.2-liter V8, producing 760bhp and 625 lb-ft of torque. This enables it to not only hit a ten second quarter-mile, but a 0-60mph time of 3.3 seconds. To achieve such a surprising time on the track, the teenager maxed out the launch control at 3,200rpm at launch with the line-lock feature used, and the rear tyres at 24PSI. He also had perfect conditions during the run.

The driver admits that he’s he least experienced person you could imagine, which we feel was a nice touch, so maybe he could let one of us give it a go instead?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
