Tesla Cybertruck Is To Join Dubai Supercar Police Force

The police force of Dubai are treated to some very serious cars that make up their police fleet. Lamborghinis, Ferraris, even Bugattis, you name it, they have it. Add some lights and sirens and they’re ready to go – not quite the Vauxhalls and BMW wagons we get in the UK.

With the release of the Tesla Cybertruck making waves in the industry, Dubai’s police were quick to post an image of the Cybertruck dolled up with the Dubai Police livery while telling us that it would be added to their fleet during 2020. Unfortunately, they may have jumped the gun, as production of both the base and mid-range model won’t begin until the year after that, and the tri-motor high performance version a year later.

The outlet Arabian Business interviewed Dubai Police Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, who told them that the Tesla Cybertruck is to serve as a patrol car in places with high tourist density. Obviously it’s going to act as more of an attraction over anything else, but with a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and 500-mile range gives it the figures for it to deserve a place on the force.

I would assume that they’ve gone for the range-topping tri-motor variant which currently costs $69,900. This will make it one of the cheapest police cars in their collection, which also includes the likes of a Porsche 918 Spyder, the rare and expensive Aston Martin One-77, and a Ford Mustang that’s been seen to by Roush.

250,000 refundable deposits have already been taken according to Elon Musk on Twitter, so we’re looking forward to how many actual sales this translates into when production starts in the coming years.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
