Tesla Model S Plaid Will Do 0-60 In Under 2 Seconds With 1,100 Horsepower

It’s been a while since we heard anything of Tesla’s Plaid powertrain, but now it’s been confirmed that it is indeed very real, with the Model S Plaid being the first range-topping car to bear the name.

Revealed on Tesla’s Battery Day event, the Model S Plaid boasts a huge, 1,100 horsepower. That’s not a type, that’s a four-figure number right there. Thanks to its tri-motor setup and all-wheel drive system, putting this power to the floor isn’t difficult for the car, which can rocket itself to 60mph in under two seconds. The quarter-mile comes in at less than nine seconds, and it will keep going until it reaches 200mph. You can close your mouth now.

Its range has been estimated to be around 520 miles, but we highly doubt you’ll reach that going flat out. Flat out, by the way, results in silly lap times like the 1m 30.3s time it got at Laguna Seca. Tesla CEO Elon Musk thinks an extra three seconds can be ground off of that, by the way. He insists that it can be the fastest production car around the famous circuit.

Prices start at £130,980 for 2021, so it’s pricey, but how else are you doing to get this kind of performance for less money?
