The Next-Gen Tesla Roadster Is Going To Be Even Faster Than Initially Thought
On an unofficial Tesla podcast named Ride the Lightning, Tesla’s chief designer Franz von Holzhausen talked about the next generation Roadster and its performance.
The all-electric hypercar is still in production despite it being known to the public for a long time. According to Franz, it’s “still evolving” and “needs more time”.
“It will be even better than what we unveiled. In every way.”

That’s really saying something, as when the Roadster was originally unveiled back in 2017, it boasts 0-60mph figures of 1.9 seconds, 0-100 in 4.2secs, and a top speed of over 250mph. It was said that it would hit a quarter mile in just 8.8 seconds. According to recent reports on a Tesla Model S performance model, the Plaid powertrain is said to be the fighting force behind this new hypercar.
Plus, Elon Musk has teased some form of rocket technology to be used for propulsion, too, but this is unconfirmed officially.
“It’s an amazing machine. That car is like no other,” said Von Holzhausen. “It showcases the ability of what an electric vehicle can do.”
A lot are skeptical of an acceleration time faster than 1.9 seconds to 60mph, but if what’s being said about rocket propulsion is true, it could very well be realistic. The main issue stopping cars from accelerating faster these days is traction, but when you move the propulsion away from the tyres in the form of a rocket of some kind, you remove the need for more traction.
We’re very excited to see what happens with the new Roadster, but at the same time trying to keep our excitement under wraps. Are you skeptical?
