The Original Bullitt Mustang Is Going Up For Auction Later This Month
The iconic movie car Mustang from Steve McQueen’s Bullitt is going under the hammer next week in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Mustang GT390 wearing its worn and patinated Highland Green paint, will go on sale on January 10, with Mecum, the auctioneer, looking for a selling price as high as $5 million. Despite this, it’s being sold with no reserve.
“To say this is emotional is an understatement,” the car’s current owner Sean Kiernan said in an a recent Instagram post. “I don’t need to sell her, but I need her to get the best care available. Where she will be preserved, safe and continue to bring happiness to every car guy and girl for as long as possible.”
“I’ve done my part and now it’s time for the next chapter,” he added. “I hope that everyone I’ve met over the past few years since I’ve rolled my family secret out of the garage can watch or be a part of this monumental event on Friday January 10th.”
After inheriting the car from his parents, Kiernan revealed the car on Bullitt’s 50th anniversary in January 2018. It was later revealed that his parents bought the car for only $3,500 after finding it listed in Road & Track Magazine. It was used as the family’s daily driver for many years before it started attracting attention. Later, during the Detroit Auto Show, it was used to reveal the Special Edition Bullitt Mustang.
