The SSC Tuatara Is A 1,750HP Monster
Shelby Super Cars have returned and this time they’re certainly back to make a mark on the industry. In what way you ask? Well, this car is pushing 1,750hp. That’s more than the Veyron, Chiron, Agera RS, and about on par with the Venom F5. Could this therefore be the car that takes the top speed record from Koenigsegg?
Unfortunately, that power is only created when using E85. On standard 92 Octane it creates ‘only’ 1,350bhp from its 5.9-litre twin turbo V8. This isn’t such an issue when you learn that it redlines at an ear cracking 8,800rpm.
This power whether created from E85 or standard fuel is sent straight to the rear wheels via what they’re calling a ‘computerised manual gearbox’ which comprises of seven speeds. What is meant by this is unclear, but soon enough the possible issues revolving this are pushed out of your mind as you continue reading down the spec sheet.
The car weighs 1,247kg dry. I can already feel your eyes light up as you scan over that number just to make sure you didn’t misread it. This is an incredible weight, or lack thereof, and is down to the car being made entirely out of carbon fibre. This is already looking to be a worthy competitor of the Chiron and Agera, but on top of these already market winning figures, SSC have one last number tucked up their sleeve.
The streamlined and simply gorgeous design has resulted in a drag coefficient of only 0.279. This is lower than all of its competitors and will certainly make for a higher top speed.
We can’t wait to see more performance stats. I have a feeling if this car can pull through, the Agera might be in for a fight.
